<p>The Washington Commanders agreed to a deal with the District of Columbia to build a new stadium at the site of RFK Stadium, the club and Mayor Muriel E. Bowser announced Monday.</p><p>"We are thrilled to welcome the Commanders back home to the sports capital," Bowser said in a <a href="https://www.commanders.com/news/mayor-bowser-and-washington-commanders-announce-historic-deal-to-bring-the-team-home">statement</a> Monday. "We said that we could do it all - Commanders, housing, park space, recreation, retail, entertainment, and more - and, together, that's what we are delivering."</p><p>The new stadium will have a capacity of roughly 65,000 seats. It will also have a roof, unlike the Commanders' current stadium, so it can have events all year long. Bowser is optimistic a new stadium would help attract major sporting events such as the Super Bowl, Final Four, and major concerts.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Primary owner Josh Harris previously mentioned his desire to open a new stadium by 2030, which is now the expected opening year for the new building. The Commanders' contract to play at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, runs through 2027. The club has the flexibility to extend the deal until the completion of a new stadium since it owns both the stadium and land.</p><p>The Commanders will invest $2.7 billion into the project. Government funding, bonds, and other investors are expected to contribute more than $1 billion combined for the stadium, parking, and the surrounding area.</p><p>The Commanders considered the potential of remaining in Landover and building a new venue at the site of their current stadium. Virginia was also considered but wasn't considered a viable option as the decision-making process developed. The team has practiced in Ashburn, Virginia, dating back to 1992.</p><p>Washington's NFL franchise played at RFK Stadium from 1961-96, winning three Super Bowls.</p><p>The Commanders are coming off one of the most successful seasons in nearly three decades. They finished 2024 with a 12-5 record, making it to the NFC Championship Game behind rising quarterback <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/199756" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/199756">Jayden Daniels</a> and head coach Dan Quinn.</p>

<p>Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/100596" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/100596">Maxx Crosby</a> has been named Eastern Michigan's assistant general manager for football, the school announced Monday.</p><p>"There is no place more important to my personal and athletic development than Eastern Michigan University," Crosby said in a statement released by the school.</p><p>Crosby tallied 20 sacks, 42 tackles for loss, and eight forced fumbles in 37 appearances across three seasons with the MAC program. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 draft after his standout college career.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"Maxx Crosby's return to EMU in this leadership role is a transformative moment for our football program," director of athletics Scott Wetherbee raved.</p><p>The school will also rename its depth chart for the weak-side defensive end position from "LEO" to "MAXX," and the team's top edge rusher will wear Crosby's No. 92.</p><p>Eastern Michigan finished the 2024 season with a 5-7 record. The program made three consecutive bowl game appearances from 2021-23. The Eagles defeated San Jose State to win the Potato Bowl in 2022.</p><p>Crosby has posted 59.5 sacks, 105 tackles for loss, 144 quarterback hits, and nine forced fumbles in 95 career games with the Raiders. He signed a three-year, $106.5-million extension with Las Vegas in March.</p>

<p>TSN executive Stewart Johnston has been named the 15th commissioner of the CFL, the league announced Wednesday.</p><p>"I am deeply humbled and profoundly honored by this incredible opportunity," Johnston <a href="https://www.cfl.ca/2025/04/02/stewart-johnston-appointed-15th-commissioner-of-the-canadian-football-league/">said</a> in a statement Wednesday. "Long before I worked with TSN and RDS to broadcast the CFL, I was a fan. Growing up, I sat with family and friends, watching the legends of the game."</p><p>Johnston's experience with Canadian sports and media contributed to the CFL's board of governors' confidence in him.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"What (Johnston) has built at Bell Media is nothing short of remarkable," chairman Scott Banda said. "His in-depth familiarity with sports business in Canada and his lengthy history of success in the media industry and as an executive made him the ideal candidate for commissioner."</p><p>Current commissioner Randy Ambrosie will continue to operate as the league's leader until April 24.</p><p>"It's been wonderful to see how far the league has come, with special thanks to Randy's stewardship," Johnston, who has been TSN president since 2010, said.
