<p>Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay provided a positive update about <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/680" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/680">Matthew Stafford</a>, saying the veteran quarterback didn't have any throwing limitations during a workout Saturday morning.</p><p>"It was awesome. He looked good. He threw the ball really well," McVay told reporters, including <a href="https://x.com/IraGorawara/status/1954368304937902270">Ira Gorawara of the Los Angeles Times</a>. "There was no limitations in terms of the types of throws. Deep, intermediate, short. ... He felt really good."</p><p>McVay added that Stafford threw more than 60 passes during his workout.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The two-time Pro Bowl passer is dealing with an aggravated disk in his back, which has kept him out of team drills since the start of training camp. The Rams remain optimistic about his Week 1 availability.</p><p>Stafford is scheduled to resume individual drills next week, according to <a href="https://x.com/sarahbarshop/status/1954370231323042098">ESPN's Sarah Barshop</a>.</p><p>"We're looking forward to progressing him back into practice on Monday," said McVay, who added that he didn't know whether the veteran QB is still dealing with pain in his back.</p><p>The 37-year-old is under contract for two more years after signing a restructured extension worth $84 million this offseason. Stafford has averaged 3,675 yards and 24 touchdowns per season since joining Los Angeles in 2021. He led the team to a Super Bowl title in his first year in town.</p>

I wanted him to play," McDermott said after a 34-25 loss to the Giants. "There's really no change at this point in time from what it was going into this weekend and the game today. ... At this point, due to his situation and the position he's in, he was not willing to play."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>McDermott added that he had a "good conversation" with the tailback.</p><p>While Cook sat out of practices this past week, he took part in walk-throughs and team meetings. The final season of Cook's current deal carries a $5.27-million base salary.</p><p>Bills general manager Brandon Beane <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3320136" href="https://thescore.com/news/3320136">said</a> Monday that he's disappointed in the situation but added the two sides have been negotiating a new deal throughout the offseason.</p><p>Cook ran for 1,009 yards last season and led the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns. He added three more scores in the playoffs.</p><p>The Bills drafted Cook in the second round in 2022.</p>

The six-time Pro Bowler is only 51 receptions shy of Antonio Gates for the most in team history.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>An elite route-runner in his prime, Allen has six 1,000-yard seasons under his belt. The 2013 third-round pick made 108 catches for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns with L.A. during the 2023 season before being traded to the Bears.</p><p>Allen caught 70 passes for 744 yards and seven TDs across 15 games in Chicago.</p><p>Adding to the wide receivers room has been a priority for the Chargers this year. However, if the Commanders decide to make a move, here's a list of teams that should pursue the five-time 1,000-yard wideout:</p><h3>New England Patriots</h3><p>The Patriots almost make too much sense as a destination for McLaurin. New England had already been linked to the 29-year-old even before his trade request. Not only do the Pats have more than enough salary cap space, but Mike Vrabel's outfit also has a major need at wide receiver. Los Angeles reunited with Mike Williams in free agency, but the veteran wideout retired before the preseason. Harris is projected to start along with Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston in one of football's youngest groups of wide receivers.</p><p>The Chargers need to keep up with other juggernaut offenses in the AFC, and McLaurin would give them a reliable and established weapon with 460 career receptions under his belt.</p><h3>Pittsburgh Steelers</h3><p>Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey, Darius Slay ... Pittsburgh is in the midst of its most aggressive offseason in recent memory, so why stop now? Age clearly isn't a concern here. McLaurin, who turns 30 in September, would be the WR2 that the Steelers have been looking for after landing Metcalf and ditching George Pickens. While Arizona boasts an interesting trio in Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, and Greg Dortch, none of them are established stars yet. Of course, the expectation is that Harrison becomes a perennial Pro Bowler, but his rookie year left something to be desired.</p><p>McLaurin would help take pressure off Harrison and give the Cardinals a lethal receiving duo, assuming Harrison meets the sky-high expectations surrounding him. But even if Harrison fails to break out again in Year 2, McLaurin would still serve as a proven WR1 for Kyler Murray and Co.</p><h3>Las Vegas Raiders</h3><p>The Raiders are projected to enter the 2025 season with Jakobi Meyers as their top wide receiver. He owns a 3.12 ERA with a 14.1 K/9 rate and four saves over 40 1/3 innings with Triple-A Durham this season.</p><p>Rortvedt, 27, owns a .540 OPS with eight homers and 48 RBIs over 209 big-league games with three teams since 2021. Stewart, who left Cincinnati's minicamp due to his contract situation, has been working out in College Station alongside former Texas A&amp;M teammates.</p><p>"There's no intentions of Shemar to play for the Aggies this year," Elko told ESPN's Shae Cornette, via <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45764247/coach-says-bengals-pick-shemar-stewart-not-returning-texas-am">ESPN's Ben Baby</a>. "But Shemar has been around. He's very comfortable in our program. Really likes what we do training-wise. He's been training, getting ready for his season this year with the Bengals. However, if a player enters the NFL draft before his college eligibility has expired and is selected, he's likely "jeopardized his NCAA eligibility," an NCAA official told <a href="https://x.com/MarkMaske/status/1945924955796910244">Mark Maske of The Washington Post</a>.</p><p>If Stewart doesn't play in the NFL or another pro league this season, he would be eligible for the 2026 draft, and the Bengals wouldn't be <a href="https://x.com/MarkMaske/status/1945921299940815123">allowed</a> to select him.</p><p>"Everyone's goal is to play in the NFL. Shemar was so excited to be drafted by Cincinnati. Houston mixed different offensive line combinations during OTAs, but its first configuration featured left tackle Cam Robinson, left guard Laken Tomlinson, center Jake Andrews, right guard Tytus Howard, and right tackle Blake Fisher. Still in the mix are four interior linemen in Jarrett Patterson, Juice Scruggs, Ed Ingram, and Jaylon Thomas, and three tackles in rookie Aireontae Ersery, Austin Deculus, and Trent Brown, who has experience on both sides but has been sidelined due to injury.</p><h3><a id="IND" name="IND">Indianapolis Colts</a></h3><p>🐎 <em>Will the young pass-rushers step up?</em></p><p>Indy has invested heavily in its front four in recent years but is still waiting for results. Their solution was moving Joe Thuney from guard to tackle, but Thuney is now gone. First-round rookie Josh Simmons, who's recovering from a knee injury, and free-agency acquisition Jaylon Moore are expected to fight for a spot to protect Patrick Mahomes' blind side. They're hoping Carroll - one of the most respected coaches of his generation - will reshape a franchise that's cycled through numerous coaches and QBs in the past two decades while dealing with endless off-field distractions and losing seasons. The Raiders, who haven't won a playoff game since 2003, also welcomed Tom Brady as a minority owner and John Spytek as general manager this year.</p><h3><a id="MIA" name="MIA">Miami Dolphins</a></h3><p>⛽ <em>Does Waller have anything left in tank?</em></p><p>The Dolphins made a surprise trade for Darren Waller, who's trying to extend his NFL career after announcing his retirement after the 2023 season. The timing of Waller's unexpected return is great, as Miami is looking for a new TE1 after trading away Jonnu Smith. But it remains to be seen how much Waller - a two-time 1,000-yard tight end - can still contribute. He turns 33 in September and hasn't played a full season since 2020.</p><h3><a id="NE" name="NE">New England Patriots</a></h3><p>🤨 <em>Is Diggs good enough to carry WR room?</em></p><p>Surrounding Drake Maye with better receivers was a must after DeMario Douglas was New England's leading WR with 621 yards in '24. So the Patriots added Stefon Diggs, Mack Hollins, and third-round rookie Kyle Williams. Diggs is supposed to be the No. 1 guy, but the four-time Pro Bowler turns 32 this year and suffered a torn ACL in October. Training camp will give us a better idea of whether Diggs and Co. will be able to help Maye.</p><h3><a id="NYJ" name="NYJ">New York Jets</a></h3><p>🤼 <em>Can Allen wrestle carries away from Hall?</em></p><p>Breece Hall is the Jets' RB1, but Braelon Allen could take on a more prominent role in Year 2. Allen turned 21 in January, and at 6-foot-1 and 235 pounds, he offers the size and physicality coaches love. Hall is in a contract year, and though he's had great moments in the NFL, he also suffered six fumbles in 2024 and posted 4.2 yards per carry, his lowest single-season average. Both players will have a chance to prove that age is just a number while going up against a younger group of receivers led by DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin at camp.</p><h3><a id="TEN" name="TEN">Tennessee Titans</a></h3><p>💸 <em>Was Titans' money well spent in free agency?</em></p><p>The Titans welcomed receivers Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson, linemen Dan Moore Jr. and Kevin Zeitler, linebackers Dre'Mont Jones and Cody Barton, and safety Xavier Woods in free agency. Tennessee deserves credit for addressing its biggest needs, but most of the acquisitions come with questions. Giving left tackle Moore $82 million for four years was likely a massive overpay. Barton's contract includes more than $13 million in guarantees. Lockett, Jefferson, and Jones are low-risk, one-year signings, but it's hard to envision them moving the needle for a team coming off a 3-14 campaign. Training camp will help indicate whether the Titans are moving in the right direction.</p>
