If Daniels can replicate his 2024 success, the Commanders are poised to compete with the Eagles for a division crown.</p><h3><a id="MIN" name="MIN">7. Minnesota Vikings</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 7</em></p><p>The Vikings made the most of the few draft picks they had. First-round offensive lineman Donovan Jackson polishes off a revamped interior offensive line, while Tai Felton is another receiver in the mix. Acquiring Sam Howell from the Seahawks also provides some much-needed insurance to the quarterback room.</p><h3><a id="LAR" name="LAR">8. Los Angeles Rams</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 8</em></p><p>The Rams are set to make another run at an NFC title. Adding Davante Adams will provide juice to an offense that lacked playmakers outside of Puka Nacua last season, and second-round tight end Terrance Ferguson could help as well.</p><h3><a id="GB" name="GB">9. Then, he drafted North Carolina tailback Omarion Hampton in the first round. Fear not for Justin Herbert, who also got a new weapon in Tre Harris on Day 2.</p><h3><a id="DEN" name="DEN">12. Denver Broncos</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 13</em></p><p>If opposing offenses thought they had it tough going against Pat Surtain, they're not ready for what could be coming with cornerback Jahdae Barron alongside him. Sean Payton also finally got his dynamic running back in RJ Harvey. The Broncos followed some nice moves in free agency with some more in the draft.</p><h3><a id="HOU" name="HOU">13. Houston Texans</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 15</em></p><p>C.J. Stroud has to be thrilled with Houston drafting Iowa State receivers Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. The Texans are a threat to make a run in the AFC if their offensive line can protect the young quarterback.</p><h3><a id="CHI" name="CHI">14. Chicago Bears</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 14</em></p><p>Ben Johnson got his version of Sam LaPorta in Colston Loveland in the first round. The big-play tight end should bring a new element to Chicago's offense, while second-round wideout Luther Burden is a project the Bears just couldn't afford to pass up.</p><h3><a id="CIN" name="CIN">15. The former Texas prodigy will battle Zach Wilson for the backup job, but the real takeaway here is that Ewers should've gone to the transfer portal instead of the draft.</p><p>A return to Texas always seemed improbable with the Longhorns ready to turn over the program to Arch Manning, but Ewers would've landed a gigantic NIL deal through the portal. As rough as the 2025 draft was for many of the big-name quarterbacks, nobody was forced to wait longer than Ewers. <em>- Alex Chippin</em></p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><h3>Raiders double-dip at QB</h3><p>The Raiders had an unconventional end to the sixth round, using the 213th and 215th picks on quarterbacks. First up was Montana State's Tommy Mellott, who is a serious freak athlete. Don't believe me? Check out his 4.39 40-yard dash time and other <a href="https://x.com/MathBomb/status/1916241861057954258">measurables</a>. Mellott is undersized for a quarterback, which leaves some question about whether he'll become a Julian Edelman-like player and transition to receiver.</p><p>North Dakota State's Cam Miller was the second quarterback chosen. He recorded the third-most wins in FCS history. The uncertainty of Pittsburgh's and Indianapolis' long-term solution at quarterback only emphasizes why these selections are valuable lottery tickets.</p><p>One quarterback notably not called during this sixth-round run was Texas passer Quinn Ewers. It's a tad surprising considering the Texans came up for Florida's Graham Mertz and the Raiders selected Montana State's uber-athletic Tommy Mellott and North Dakota State's Cam Miller. -<em> Daniel Valente</em></p><h3>Eagles add to QB factory</h3><p>The reigning Super Bowl champions used a sixth-round pick to add more quarterback depth behind Jalen Hurts. Philadelphia took Syracuse passer Kyle McCord on Saturday, bringing an interesting prospect to a depth chart that also features Tanner McKee and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. McCord's gunslinger style could make him an interesting backup in the NFL. <em>- Caio Miari</em></p><h3>SEC makes history</h3><p>Before the seventh round even began, a total of 65 players from the SEC were drafted, already tying the record for the most picks from a conference in the same NFL draft. This will mark the 19th straight year in which the SEC has had more players selected than any other league.<em> - Caio Miari</em></p><h3>Eagles loading up on defense</h3><p>The Eagles finished the 2024 season with the league's No. 1 defense in yards and second-ranked scoring unit. They clearly weren't satisfied by finishing behind the Chargers in points allowed, as they've selected five consecutive defenders to start their class. Philly also added another data point to one of its trends, drafting Georgia linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. in the fifth round. Mondon is the sixth Bulldog the franchise has drafted since 2022. <em>- Andrew Dixon</em></p><h3>Rams love RBs</h3><p>Sean McVay's outfit took former Auburn tailback Jarquez Hunter in Round 4, marking the eighth straight draft in which the Rams chose a running back. That's the <a href="https://x.com/sarahbarshop/status/1916176255675994160">longest</a> streak in the NFL since Washington did so from 2011-20. Cam Akers (52nd overall) was L.A.'s highest-drafted runner in that span, but Kyren Williams is the most notable one. It'll be interesting to see how the QB competition in Cleveland develops.</p><p>With Deshaun Watson unlikely to play in 2025 due to injury, Cleveland will start its offseason activities with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Gabriel, and Sanders on the depth chart. This battle looks wide open and either rookie could legitimately win it. <em>- Caio Miari</em></p><h3>Vikings trade for a McCarthy backup</h3><p>The Vikings considered Aaron Rodgers and even a reported trade to reunite with Kirk Cousins. They could also have drafted a rookie QB. Instead, Minnesota made a deal with Seattle to acquire Sam Howell, who presumably will serve as the team's backup behind second-year passer J.J. McCarthy. Howell has 18 NFL starts under his belt, 17 of which came in 2023 in his only year as a starter in Washington. He backed up Geno Smith last year. <em>- Caio Miari</em></p><h3>A new weapon for Mahomes</h3><p>After getting Mahomes an offensive lineman in Round 1, the Chiefs went back to the well on offense in Round 4, drafting Utah State receiver Jalen Royals. There's some good value in Royals, who joins a Kansas City receiving corps that will return a healthy Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown, plus Xavier Worthy entering his second year. Royals can operate on all three levels of the field, and he gives Mahomes another pass-catcher to throw to. <em>- Daniel Valente</em></p><h3>Chubb on outside looking in with Browns</h3><p>It looks like Nick Chubb's time in Cleveland could be over. The Browns have doubled up on running backs at the draft, selecting Dylan Sampson with the 126th pick after taking Quinshon Judkins at No. 36. His quickness and route-running skills were consistently too much for defensive backs to handle, allowing him to create easy separation. He was similarly dynamic after the catch and as a returner on special teams. Johnson continued to shine when it came time to go one-on-one with some top defensive backs at the Senior Bowl. Gambling on a player with this size will always carry some risk, and he'll need to mitigate contact against NFL defenders. But the eye test was good enough that Johnson is absolutely worth a shot.</p>

He's got the arm to make every throw on the field, a quick release, and the touch to deliver some really nice passes over an underneath defender. His off-script playmaking, demonstrated with a few highlight-reel throws this year at Michigan, provides some intriguing upside. But the accuracy comes and goes, particularly in the deeper areas. It seems like the inconsistency is a result of some sloppy footwork. His feet tend to get away from him when he's dealing with pressure in the pocket, too. Could a few years of development in the NFL give him a chance to clean up these issues and make the most of his abilities? It's probably a risk worth taking. There's potential for him to become a starter if he can find a way for the highs to become the norm.</p>

However, there were flashes of NFL talent. Fidone's testing profile - the best among tight ends in this class, according to Relative Athletic Score - is evident with his explosiveness and quickness in and out of breaks. He's a much better route-runner than you'd expect for a player with such minimal production, and he has good ball skills at the catch point. He's also nimble and tough after the catch. Fidone's length and physicality will give him a chance to get on the field early as a blocker. From there, he can take advantage of that untapped receiver upside and outplay his draft position.</p>

He's an explosive pass-rusher who gets upfield in a flash, winning with active hands and a good repertoire of rush moves, including an impressive spin counter. His consistent effort also keeps the battle alive even if his first move is stalled. Peebles will need the right fit, as he can't be put in a position where he's taking on double teams at the point of attack. Any sort of run-game value might be too much to ask, but he does play with surprisingly good power, and the leverage battle comes naturally at his size. Even if there's no path to early down work, Peebles can compensate with his ability to get after the quarterback in sub packages. And that's where money is made anyway.</p>

Brooks led the nation with 96 missed tackles forced in 2023, 14 clear of Jeanty, according to PFF. Upside's the big question here, as he seemed limited in the speed department on tape. The combine 40 time was more than respectable, but it came after weighing in well shy of his listed 230 pounds in college. Is Brooks going to remain at that weight in the NFL? Does it matter? His sublime feel for the game is the main draw, either way. If given the necessary time, it's possible he can parlay the late growth into a more well-rounded skill set as a passer. There's some significant projection required on that front, though. Howard is accurate enough and manages the pocket well. He can also be a factor on designed QB runs. As we saw during the CFP, that can be enough to win when he's given defined reads. But he hasn't consistently shown he can work through progressions when his first option is taken away. That's when you see passes forced into coverage and the ball put in danger. Howard is likely a developmental backup who could be an early contributor in short-yardage packages.</p>

A lack of top-end speed could impact his big-play ability in the NFL, so perhaps his true ceiling is worth considering here, but speed isn't exactly a requirement for high-end running back production. Why overthink it when he does everything else so well? Neal's a patient, intelligent runner with good vision and an impressive feel for setting up blocks. While he isn't the most sudden athlete, his instincts allow him to create for himself when a play appears bottled up. Neal sets up defenders to slip tackles in the open field, and he has the balance to shake off contact and keep rolling. He also happens to be an easy projection for third-down contributions, proving himself an effective receiver out of the backfield and a reliable contributor in pass protection. Neal does it all - don't be surprised if he outperforms his draft position.</p>

To his credit, the willingness to push the ball downfield and challenge tight windows was a big reason for his 34-touchdown breakout after transferring to Syracuse last year. But it's also why he threw 12 interceptions and accounted for 23 turnover-worthy plays, the second-worst mark in the nation, according to PFF. McCord doesn't quite have the arm talent to match his aggressive play style, and that could become an even bigger issue at the next level. His combination of accuracy and timing might provide fringe starter value if he can rein it in and take better care of the ball. If not, who doesn't love a high-variance backup providing the chance for some big plays when called upon? Either way, McCord should have a spot in the league.</p>

However, as we know, there's only so much a running back can do to overcome the situation around him, and Oklahoma State's offense did Gordon no favors in 2024. Anyone evaluating him on last season alone runs the risk of missing out on an interesting player. Gordon's a big back who never shies away from contact, he generally makes good decisions as the play develops, and is more nimble than expected given his size and physical play style. He's also capable of playing all three downs and contributing as a receiver, and he can hold his own in pass protection. Fit will be important - Gordon needs a downhill run game to be at his best. But he absolutely can still become the back we thought he could be after a spectacular sophomore season.</p>

The Notre Dame product's combination of size, play strength, and blocking skills should earn him the kind of trust that gets young players on the field. He's no slouch as a receiver either. While he doesn't have the straight-line speed to stretch the field vertically, he's quicker than you might imagine a player of his size being. And even when he's unable to create separation, Mitchell has the body control and ball skills to win in contested-catch situations. His playmaking doesn't match the more athletic tight end prospects, and past injuries will make the medicals an important part of the evaluation. But an increasingly rare do-it-all skill set should allow Mitchell to build a long professional career.</p>

The Georgia product is an impressive athlete with coverage skills that could immediately make him an impact player in the passing game. He's fluid and instinctive in zone while also offering the ability to match up with tight ends and running backs in man-to-man. He even held his own with some occasional work lined up in the slot in college. Mondon is also a physical and reliable tackle who can offer some upside as a blitzer from the second level. He doesn't quite have the size to be taking on blocks between the tackles, and he could stand to improve when it comes to making reads and getting downhill more efficiently in the run game. But the coverage ability will play in sub packages from Day 1. Any development in other areas could make Mondon one of this year's best value picks at the position.</p>

The Purdue product probably doesn't have the size or length to stick at tackle, so he could be destined for a move to guard or even center. Mbow is a truly unique athlete who moves pretty much unlike anyone else at the position. He also processes the game at a high level and refuses to be outworked. Watch him drive a Notre Dame defender 10 yards downfield and into the ground while trailing 66-7 with three minutes to go in the season's second game. The effort is unmatched. And while he'll probably need to add strength no matter his eventual position, Mbow's advanced hand usage is a great starting point. He's a player everyone should want on their team. Figure the rest out later.</p>
