I have no idea," Hendriks said before the series finale against the New York Mets when asked to describe his role with the Red Sox, according to <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2025/05/21/sports/red-sox-notebook-mets-mlb-baseball/?s_campaign=bostonglobesports%3Asocialflow%3Atwitter">Alex Speier and Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe</a>. "It's actually a source of contention that I've had with (the team) and I've had multiple conversations about."</p><p>Hendriks owns a 5.56 ERA with 1.41 WHIP and 11 strikeouts over 11 1/3 innings this season after surrendering three earned runs on three hits in a loss to the Mets on Wednesday. "I just want to pitch. I feel like I can make contributions to this team. I feel like I can make a lot more contributions than I have been, and I just want to be given that opportunity."</p><p>Boston signed Hendriks to a two-year, $10-million contract in February 2024.</p><p>The right-hander was once one of the best relievers in baseball, authoring a 2.26 ERA with 114 saves and 13.5 K/9 across 226 appearances with the Athletics and Chicago White Sox between 2019 and 2022.</p>

"I just focus on trying to get better. I can't think of anything else."</p><p>The 27-year-old is putting up the worst campaign of his six-year career, slashing .186/.281/.308 with five homers and 17 RBIs through 44 games. His run game has been a silver lining, as he's recorded an MLB-leading 17 stolen bases in 22 attempts.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"I've been stealing a lot of bases just because I have that ability and just trying to make the most of the chances that are on the bases," Robert said. "There have been few instances where I've been able to do that, especially with the season that I've been having at the plate."</p><p>Robert doesn't believe he is worn down from being a part of a White Sox club that has gone 116-256 since 2023.</p><p>"No, not really," He <a href="https://x.com/scottmerkin/status/1924934424652582934">added</a>. "The team is part of you, in the same way that you are part of the team. If you are doing good individually, you're going to help the team."</p><p>Robert is making $15 million in 2025 and has two club options for 2026 and '27 that are each worth $20 million. <p>Runner-up John Hunter Nemechek also advanced to the main event by finishing second in the 100-lap warmup race. Noah Gragson won an online fan vote to earn the final transfer spot to the All-Star Race, whose field will include 20 other drivers competing for $1 million over 250 laps Sunday night.</p>
<p>Hocevar started second in the All-Star Open and took the lead in his No. 77 Chevrolet with a two-tire pit stop during the yellow flag for a halfway break. The Spire Motorsports driver cruised to a 0.697-second win over Nemechek, whose No. 42 Toyota charged from sixth to second over the final seven laps.</p>

<p>“It’s super big for this team,” Hocevar said. “It’s great to win, especially being challenged by tires there. I had my hands full. We definitely have to go to work here on our race car because I didn’t really like it. But it’s a good sign that we didn’t like it and we were still pretty quick there.”</p>
<p>Ty Dillon finished third, followed by Erik Jones and Michael McDowell.</p>
<p>Pole-sitter Shane van Gisbergen finished 13th after leading the first 54 laps on the 0.625-mile oval. The New Zealand native, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/nascar-daytona-500-gisbergen-d25c8dc4dddccf6cab152f4692334a12">who is in his first full Cup Series season</a> after winning three Supercar championships in Australia, fell from first to sixth on a four-tire pit stop during the halfway caution.</p>
<p>“I don’t know whether to smile or cry,” said van Gisbergen, who is ranked 35th in the points standings with one top 10 this season. “It’s been a dismal year for us, but I feel like we’re getting better every week. This shows it. It was awesome to lead some laps. I was out front driving like a grandma and felt like it was easy. We’re getting better.”</p>
<hl2>Costly penalty</hl2><p>Ryan Preece finished 11th in the Open after being sent to the rear from second place on a restart with 17 laps remaining. Preece said he unintentionally ran over the commitment line before which drivers must choose whether they are restarting on the inside or outside lane.</p>
<p>“It’s really nonexistent from inside the car,” Preece said. “You can’t see it. So I just hooked a left going across the line, figuring it’s in that area. I’m frustrated because if you have a situation like that, put a cone out there so we can see it. Our Ford Mustang was super fast, and I think we were the only one that was making some waves. It’s heartbreaking to have a run like that taken away.”</p>
<p>NASCAR repainted the restart commitment line before the start of the All-Star Race.</p>
<hl2>More money</hl2><p>The All-Star Race winner’s share has been $1 million since the 2003 event, and some drivers have grumbled that an increase for inflation is well overdue.</p>
<p>“I definitely think it should get raised,” 2023 Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney said this week. “That’s the only thing about the All-Star Race I’d probably change. I don’t want to get greedy, but I think you can raise it to $3 million.”</p>
<p>Bubba Wallace said he’d suggest $5 million but would be good for a bump to $3 million.</p>
<p>“They’ve got more TV money, so why not,” Wallace said, referring to NASCAR’s media rights raising <a href="https://apnews.com/article/nascar-tv-fox-nbc-amazon-discovery-streaming-82efd536efda811c2ef3867a278384db">to $1.1 billion annually in a deal starting this year</a>.</p>

"Admitted that I was wrong. I told them I was not coming here with any excuses. Took accountability for what I did."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The 27-year-old added that he was upset at the time he posted the comment because he couldn't help his then-slumping team, which had a 8-13 record at that point in large part because of a seven-game losing streak to start the season.</p><p>"I've always just felt such a strong sense of pride of being a member of this organization," Acuña said. "I want to be here my whole career. So, seeing the team and my teammates going through (struggles) and not being able to help ... was where the frustration was coming from."</p><p>Acuña could rejoin the Braves at the end of May or early June based on his rehab games.</p>

<p>MLB removed Pete Rose, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, and other deceased players from the permanently ineligible list, the league announced Tuesday.</p><p>National Baseball Hall of Fame chairman Jane Forbes Clark said the decision will allow players who've been removed from the list to be considered for enshrinement, according to <a href="https://x.com/Feinsand/status/1922385240284127450">Mark Feinsand of MLB.com</a>. A historical committee will create an eight-person ballot for the Classic Baseball Era Committee to vote on in December 2027, Forbes Clark added.</p><p>Under the Hall of Fame's current rules, the earliest that Rose and Jackson could be inducted is 2028.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>MLB commissioner Rob Manfred ruled that permanent ineligibility is lifted when a player dies.</p><p>"Obviously, a person no longer with us cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game," Manfred wrote in a letter to Rose's lawyer, Jeffrey M. Lenkov, according to <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45115659/pete-rose-shoeless-joe-jackson-players-reinstated-mlb">Don Van Natta Jr. of ESPN</a>. "Moreover, it is hard to conceive of a penalty that has more deterrent effect than one that lasts a lifetime with no reprieve.</p><p>"Therefore, I have concluded that permanent ineligibility ends upon the passing of the disciplined individual, and Mr. Rose will be removed from the permanently ineligible list."</p><p>Rose, baseball's all-time hit king, was placed on the permanently ineligible list in 1989 for betting on baseball games while he was a player-manager for the Cincinnati Reds in 1986. A 1991 rule change made players on the list ineligible for the Hall of Fame.</p><p>Cincinnati will honor Rose, who died in September 2024 at age 83, before playing the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.</p><p>The 17-time All-Star recorded 4,256 hits over a 24-year career that included stops with the Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and Montreal Expos from 1963-86. He's also the major-league leader in games played (3,562), at-bats (14,053), singles (3,215), and times on base (5,929).</p><p>Jackson and seven other White Sox were banned in 1921 for fixing the 1919 World Series in what is now referred to as the Black Sox Scandal<em>. </em>Jackson, who posted a career .356 batting average, died in 1951 but remains a well-known figure in baseball lore and pop culture after Ray Liotta portrayed him in the 1989 film "Field of Dreams."</p>

The right-hander owns a 4.45 ERA with 12.5 K/9 across 30 1/3 innings (seven starts) in Triple-A this season but was rocked in his MLB debut May 4, allowing six earned runs on nine hits over 3 2/3 innings against the St. Louis Cardinals.</p>
