The New York Yankees came into Sutter Health Park and mashed the place to the ground.

New York went on an offensive rampage in the third inning of Sunday's game against the Athletics, plating 13 runs while batting around twice during the frame.

The Athletics entered the top of the third holding a 3-0 lead, but things quickly spiraled out of control for the home side. New York scored 10 runs before recording an out, with seven of those charged to A's starter Jacob Lopez. Max Schuemann made it 10-3 with a two-run double off reliever Michael Kelly, who allowed six runs in two-thirds of an inning.

The Yankees became the first team to score at least 10 runs in an inning before recording an out since the Boston Red Sox on May 7, 2009, against Cleveland, per YES Network.

By the time Jack Perkins, the second A's reliever, finally got Trent Grisham to fly out and end the frame, the Yankees held a 13-3 lead. All 11 of the Yankees' hits came during the top of the third, and made the A's throw 75 pitches.

Every Yankees player had at least two at-bats in the frame and reached base at least once. Twelve consecutive Yankees batters - two shy of the MLB record - reached safely, marking the first time the team's done that since Sept. 11, 1949, according to Josh Dubow of The Associated Press.

"Twelve in a row reached base? Remarkable," manager Aaron Boone said, per YES Network. "Glad we were able to make it stand up."

Ben Rice did the most individual damage during the inning, recording a pair of extra-base hits with four RBIs in his two plate appearances. Cody Bellinger and Anthony Volpe also had two hits apiece.

The Yankees' 13 runs were one shy of the franchise's single-inning record of 14, set on July 6, 1920, versus the Washington Senators. Sunday marks the first time that the Yankees have scored 13-plus runs in one frame since a 13-run ninth inning against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on June 21, 2005, per the Yankees broadcast.

The Athletics, meanwhile, gave up the most runs in a single inning since June 18, 1950 - when Connie Mack was still managing the team in Philadelphia.

The monster third ended up providing all of the offense New York needed in a 13-8 win. Amazingly, the Yankees were outhit by the A's 12-11 and had just one baserunner - a sixth-inning walk drawn by Bellinger - across the other eight innings combined. This made the Yankees the first team ever to score 13-plus runs in a game where all of their runs and hits came in the same inning, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.

Additionally, New York tied the MLB record for most runs scored in a game when all their runs came in the same inning. It had previously been done just twice, according to Langs.

"I don't think (it was) the prettiest game on either side necessarily, but we were able to make a really outstanding inning stand up," Boone said. "... I had a few grays here today, but obviously a great way to finish a really good road trip."
