Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander won't return to the mound Sunday as scheduled after suffering a left hamstring strain, manager A.J. Hinch announced Friday.
Hinch said that Verlander sustained the injury during a bullpen session in preparation for his first start since March 30.
"(Following the bullpen), he came into my office with a pretty distraught look on his face, that he had felt something different," Hinch said.
"He's pretty upset, obviously," Hinch added. "It's not a matter of days, it's a matter of weeks."

Verlander was working his way back from hip inflammation, which sidelined him for 11 weeks.
Hinch emphasized that Verlander's hamstring strain isn't related to his hip issue.
The 43-year-old pitcher returned to the Tigers on a one-year, $13-million deal in February after spending the first 13 seasons of his career with the franchise. Sunday would have marked Verlander's first start for the Tigers at Comerica Park since August 2017.
