Jackson Chourio is Mr. Clutch.
The Milwaukee Brewers secured a 2-0 series lead in the NLDS on Sunday after the star outfielder walked off the San Diego Padres with a two-out single in the ninth inning against All-Star closer Mason Miller for a 4-3 win.
Milwaukee entered the ninth trailing 3-2, with Miller pitching his second inning after throwing a 1-2-3 eighth frame.
Christian Yelich walked and stole second base after Garrett Mitchell grounded out to begin the inning. Miller then walked Sal Frelick before getting Andrew Vaughn to fly out to center field. Gary Sánchez walked to load the bases after coming on as a pinch hitter. Afterward, Chourio singled to score the game-winning runs.
"(Chourio) is just one of those players, man," Yelich told Fox Sports' Tom Verducci following the win. "He's super talented, super gifted, his hands are lightning. He can do whatever he wants on a baseball field."
Chourio fouled off a 104-mph fastball from Miller before knocking in the game-winner on a 102-mph four-seamer that caught too much of the zone.
"Terrible. I didn't do my job today ... ," Miller said postgame when asked how he felt about the loss, according to Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
"The cardinal rule is pretty much: You don't beat yourself. And I beat myself today. I mean, a base hit with nobody on doesn't win them the game. A base hit after you walk the bases loaded does."
The 22-year-old Chourio is the third-youngest player in postseason history to record a walk-off hit, according to MLB.com's Sarah Langs. Edgar Renteria was the only player younger when he picked up two walk-off hits during the 1997 postseason.
The Brewers head to San Diego to play Game 3 on Tuesday. Right-hander Dustin May will start for Milwaukee opposite Nick Pivetta for San Diego.
Teams with a 2-0 lead in a best-of-five postseason series have gone on to win the series 83 of 93 times, per Langs.
