Michael Kim lights up 3M Open for 15th 59 in TOUR history

Michael Kim achieved golf's magic number Friday at the 3M Open, firing a 12-under 59 to rocket up the leaderboard at TPC Twin Cities.

Kim's 59 is the 15th in PGA TOUR history and the 16th sub-60 round ever on the circuit. Jim Furyk is the only player to record a 58, doing so at the 2016 Travelers Championship.

Kim converted a 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to cap his historic round.

Kim caught fire on the third hole, starting a stretch of seven birdies in eight holes. He also birdied his final four holes.

Kim put forth a remarkable display of putting, averaging 1.2 putts on his 14 greens hit in regulation. His strokes gained: putting for the day finished at 6.4, according to the TOUR.

The 59 vaulted Kim 42 spots up the leaderboard from Thursday, and he entered the clubhouse leading the event by three strokes.

Before Kim's dominant display Friday, Jake Knapp had recorded the TOUR's most recent 59 last February at the Cognizant Classic.
