The San Francisco 49ers announced that tight end George Kittle and pass-rusher Nick Bosa are active for the team's Week 1 matchup Thursday against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia.
Kittle was trending toward playing after making the trip to Melbourne. The star pass-catcher returned to practice a couple of weeks ago, just seven months after suffering a torn Achilles in San Francisco's wild-card round victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in January.
The 32-year-old was initially placed on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp. However, he has stayed on track to return for the season opener and hasn't suffered any setbacks throughout his recovery.
Bosa was sidelined for most of the 2025 season with a torn ACL. He also missed a good chunk of camp due to knee soreness but returned to the practice field on Sept. 2 and traveled with the team to Australia.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters the 49ers might be mindful of their star players' workloads in the season opener.
"We've got to be smart with that. They both look great but we've definitely got to be smart with that," Shanahan said Thursday, according to 49ers writer Brooke Evans.
The 49ers traveled to Australia last week, while the Rams arrived in Melbourne just over 24 hours before kickoff. Alfred Collins, a projected starting defensive lineman for the 49ers, suffered a torn patellar tendon during practice this week and will miss the contest.
Kickoff for the division rivalry contest is scheduled for 8:35 p.m. ET.
