The Winnipeg Jets traded goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to the New Jersey Devils, the teams announced Friday.

The Devils sent forwards Dawson Mercer and Nick Bjugstad, goaltender Nico Daws, prospect Alexander Command, a 2029 second-round pick, and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Winnipeg.

Hellebuyck went public with his trade request in August. He didn't report to Jets training camp and was suspended by the team. The suspension was reportedly slated to end Friday.

Jets captain Adam Lowry said Saturday that if Hellebuyck rejoined the team, "conversations are going to have to happen."

The Devils play in Winnipeg on Nov. 10.

Hellebuyck, 33, is signed through the 2030-31 campaign at an $8.5-million cap hit. He has a full no-movement clause.

The U.S. Olympic hero made 41 saves on 42 shots in February's dramatic gold-medal victory over Canada.

Hellebuyck won NHL MVP in 2025 and is a three-time Vezina Trophy winner as the league's best goaltender. He had an .895 save percentage and a 2.86 goals-against average in 57 games last season.

Mercer has zero goals and four assists in 10 games. The 24-year-old tallied 20 goals and 42 points in all 82 contests last season. Mercer has a $4-million cap hit and is set to become a restricted free agent in July.

Bjugstad, 34, sustained a torn pectoral muscle in September and will miss four-to-six months. He had six goals and nine points in 61 games last year and will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Daws owns an .874 save percentage in four games. The 25-year-old has played 59 NHL games over six seasons and has a career .897 save percentage. He's signed through 2027-28 at a $1.1-million cap hit.

Command was drafted 12th overall in June. The 18-year-old center has 12 points in six games in the Swedish junior league and zero points in six games in the Swedish pro league.

The Jets felt they were receiving terrible offers for Hellebuyck as recently as the weekend, but talks progressed Thursday night, sources told ESPN's Emily Kaplan.

Hellebuyck's cap hit is reduced to $8.1 million this season due to his suspension, according to PuckPedia. New Jersey has $8.2 million in current cap space.

Devils general manager Sunny Mehta indicated before the season that he was hesitant to spend heavily on goaltending.

"Because there is randomness at the position, I’m reluctant to invest significant assets there instead of in areas where the results may be more predictable," Mehta said in September, according to NHL.com's Mike G. Morreale.

The Devils have used Jake Allen and Daws between the pipes this season. Allen has an .883 save percentage in six games. New Jersey traded goaltender Jacob Markstrom to the Florida Panthers in July.
