Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to miss next week's game against the Arizona Cardinals due to the hip injury he sustained in Wednesday's season opener, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
However, Darnold could reportedly return to the reigning Super Bowl champions in a few weeks.
Tests on Darnold revealed an unusual muscle strain in his hip area, according to Tom Pelissero of The Ringer. The quarterback is not a candidate for injured reserve, but his return date remains undetermined.
"We're still trying to figure out what the best prognosis is, but the hip is intact and it's good," head coach Mike Macdonald said on Seattle Sports 710AM, according to John Boyle of Seahawks.com. "It's more of like a muscle thing. So, that's good, that's the good news. Now how long that is, we don't know yet, but really good news."
Darnold hurt his hip when he was sacked on the opening drive of the Seahawks' 13-10 win over the New England Patriots. He finished with one completion on two attempts for 13 yards over five snaps.
Darnold threw for 4,048 yards with 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions last season.
